How These Models Are Rocking In The Fashion Industry!

If I say you to picture a model in your mind then most of you will imagine a thin body, fair, tall and intimidating features, it's the old fashion industry that made us think like that. Today there is a slow progressive diversity in the modeling industry, you can see some beautiful models of all shades, sizes and heights.


Modeling Agencies back then only wanted tall and thin models but now slowly the fashion brands are demanding for diversity in models and they are now scouting all types of models. Today's aspiring models are of all body and skin types. The slow growth needs to get faster so that we can see the real diversity in the industry.


Varshita Thatavarthi 




The young curvy 25 year old from Chennai and raised in Delhi who models for the famous Indian brand 'Sabyasachi', people admired her for her confidence as a curvy model. She was rejected for five years for just having a natural fuller body and beautiful dusky skin but until she modeled for the Sabyasachi things started looking up. She believes in loving yourself first and not to bother about others opinions.


Precious Lee




The milestones supermodel Precious Lee achieved after she appeared at Milan Fashion Week September 2020. She was the first curve model to walk the Versace runway spring 2021. She was also spotlighted on covers of Vogue, British Vogue and Harper's Bazaar. She was also homecoming queen in high school. She is very grateful to be a black woman because all black women are resilient, versatile and creative. She doesn't like that people categorise plus size models but she knows that they are in a pioneering situation and it's new. 


Adut Akech 


 



The Supermodel was born in South Sudan, raised in Kenya and later moved to Australia with her mom as South Sudanese refugees when she was 7. She was told by a lot of people to model and even some agencies reached her but she started modeling at 16. She has modeled for A to Z fashion brands and also has appeared in a lot of magazine editorials. She had always wished to give a house to her mother and she loves to take care of her mom and siblings. She says that she is tired of this slow diversity growth and she wants real change and diversity in the industry.


Indya Moore

Indya Moore was born in New York and left home at 14 due to their parents' transphobia. They says that as we grow older, and very often, we learn society hasn’t been kind to those who do not fit into traditional moulds. Indya Moore is proof that inherent goodness can prevail, despite having endured judgement and rejection from loved ones. At 25, the trans, non-binary actor and model. They have done a popular Netflix series "Pose". Moore believes that fashion is a means through which trans people can take their bodies back and fight against the harmful gaze. They have also appeared in a lot of magazines.


Winnie Harlow




Winnie Harlow was 4 when she was diagnosed with vitiligo, a condition where the skin loses its pigment cells. She never imagined that she would become a model in a fashion world. One of her friends who was a journalist encouraged Winnie to pursue modeling in her teenage and after that she realised how much she could make in the industry. Today she is a judge on Amazon Prime Video's series "Making the cut". Winnie wants to show her big personality more by working on TV and films and not just on the runway.


Ashley Graham




The 33 year old is supermodel, mother, podcast host, activist and businesswoman. Ashley Graham has been a presence in modeling for more than a decade, but 2016 handed her a true breakthrough.  She was the first size 14 model featured on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, in 2016. She has done a lot of commercials for body positivity campaigns, she was everywhere in every cover. She has challenged not only the fashion and modeling industry but also the nuances of what acceptance of beauty means in our culture today. She wants her success to usher in more diversity.
