Y2k Fashion

Y2k Fashion

We are now seeing the influence of Y2K fashion making its way back into our current trends mini shoulder bags, tiny sunglasses, track suits, pleated skirts, you name it. With the sustainable fashion movement stronger than ever, there is a major push for buying secondhand, and lucky for you, a thrift store or online thrift stores. The scary time period and are relying heavily on technology to get us through quarantine, we are evoking some of the same uncertainty from the late 90s and early 2000s, causing Y2K fashion to resurface. Nostalgia is a powerful feeling, and we are naturally drawn to things that remind us of simpler times. You know what they say, history repeats itself.

Today when you scroll through your social feeds like Instagram or tik tok you see people engaging in y2k fashion. The current Y2K fashion trend is just that, a return of clothing and aesthetic trends from the late ‘90s and the year 2000. Gen-z and Millennials are welcoming the nostalgia for the era.

Baby Tees

These tees are basically cropped above the belly button. You can pick your favourite pattern like quoted tee, cute characters or any patterns. A versatile piece you can pair it up with jeans and skirts.

Shiny Outfits

Shiny materials with the shade of silver or any other shade would pop up and bring back nostalgia. If you like funky colours then go for pink, green, yellow, neon or if you like subtle things then you choose the basic shades with subtle jewellery.

Bandana

From Jacquemus to Gucci you can see the bandana is trending even in the runways. Bandana was a staple accessory for all Y2K fashion trends of early 2000. You can rock it in many ways, wear it on your head or wear it as a top.

Pleated skirts

Whether you like them micro-mini or a little bit longer, it’s all on you how you feel comfortable. These pieces are great when paired with an oversized sweater, crop top, or a baby tee. Also pick your vibrant colour to make your outfit look y2k.

Baguette Bags

This little bag nestles under your arm as the perfect accessory to wear on your daily tasks. They look absolutely stunning with every outfit if paired correctly. The iconic baguette bag is a true symbol of the Y2K aesthetic. You can go for pastel shades for a more vintage look but if you like futuristic then go for metallic colours and shiny fabrics that work well with almost any outfit.
